The 6th International Workshop on Educational Seismology was successfully held from 14 to 16 May 2026 in Pokhara, Nepal. The workshop brought together experts, school teachers, and university students for intensive training and knowledge exchange in educational seismology. To continue promoting earthquake education in schools and communities across Nepal, the programme included training on low-cost seismometer operation and seismic data monitoring, together with presentations, hands-on activities, discussions, and question and answer sessions.

The workshop was attended by a total of 40 participants, including members of the organising committee, invited experts, secondary school teachers, and volunteers. The event served as a collaborative platform involving educators, researchers, and students engaged in educational seismology and earthquake awareness activities.
The workshop featured presentations from Prof. Dr. Bishal Nath Upreti from NAST, Dr. Marianne Karplus from UTEP, Dr. Lok Bijaya Adhikari from Nepal Seismological Association (NSA), Dr. Shiba Subedi, Mr. Sunny Karmacharya from UTEP, Mr. Shreedhar Dhakal from Shiva Secondary School, Ms. Aastha Poudel from TU, and Ms. Priyanka Dhami from UTEP.
A dedicated discussion session was conducted focusing on the role of educational seismology in reducing seismic risk in Nepal. The discussion highlighted the important role of experts in bridging scientific knowledge with local governments and strengthening science communication for disaster risk reduction.
An “Ask Me Anything” session was also carried out, where participants were encouraged to raise scientific and academic questions. These questions were addressed by an expert panel consisting of Prof. Dr. Bishal Nath Upreti, Dr. Lok Bijaya Adhikari, Dr. Marianne Karplus and Mr. Sunny Karmacharya. The session was moderated by Dr. Shiba Subedi.
